Third International Conference on “Data Science and L2 Studies”

Following the success of the first and second international conferences, held at Ningbo University of Finance and Economics and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, respectively, the Data Science and L2 Studies Committee based in the Journal of Second Language Studies (JSLS) is pleased to announce the third international conference on "Data Science and L2 Studies." The event will be hosted by Jiangxi University of Science and Technology from November 8-11, 2024.

This year’s conference will feature renowned scholars from both China and abroad, who will deliver keynote addresses. Experts from diverse fields will also be invited to participate in discussions. The central theme of the conference is "Language Data Science Literacy for L2 Researchers". We invite you to actively participate by submitting research paper abstracts and posters by October 15, 2024. A dedicated space for poster presentations will be provided. Submission guidelines are detailed below.

The conference is proudly sponsored by John Benjamins, a global leader in academic publishing, particularly in the fields of humanities and social sciences. Awards will be given for the best research paper and best poster presentation, with winners receiving complimentary subscriptions, certificates, and prizes. Selected outstanding manuscripts will also be considered for publication in JSLS.

Key Sessions (Subject to Change):

  1. Graduate Student Forum: Graduate students from across the globe will present their ongoing research. Experts and scholars will provide feedback and commentary.

  2. Pre-conference Workshop: Prior to the main conference, leading scholars will conduct a workshop focusing on “Language Data Science Literacy for L2 Researchers.”

  3. Keynote Speeches: Eight to nine distinguished scholars from China and abroad will deliver keynote presentations on the latest advancements in the field.

  4. Parallel Forum: Group discussions will be organized around key conference topics, led by domestic and international scholars.

  5. Poster Display: To foster interaction and dialogue among participants, a dedicated poster session will be held.

  6. Roundtable Forum: A discussion on expanding linguistic data science literacy among L2 researchers.

  7. Editor-in-Chief Forum: Editors-in-chief from prestigious domestic and international journals will exchange perspectives on key topics.

Call for Proposals:

We welcome proposals for parallel forum topics from all experts. Please submit proposals to the conference email by September 30, 2024. Two forums have already been confirmed:

  1. Empirical Frontiers: Quantitative Approaches in Translation Studies - Hosted by Liu Kanglong (Hong Kong Polytechnic University)

  2. Twenty Years of Mixed-Effects Models - Hosted by Wu Shiyu (Shanghai Jiao Tong University)

As per tradition, the best doctoral research project, paper, and poster presentation will be recognized with awards following the conference.
